A University of British Columbia professor said that children should be exposed to adult genitalia in order to prepare them for seeing adults exposed in their restrooms.
Katja Thieme, who has since locked her Twitter account, is a journalism professor at the university.
“Hey, want to know one of my all-time excellent parenting ideas? Let. Little. Children. See. Penises. And. Vulvas. Of. Various. Ages. And. Sizes. In. A. Casual. Normalized. Totally. Safe. Way,” Thieme said, according to several screenshots of the tweet taken before it was hidden from public view.
Thieme reportedly made the comments in response to swimmer Riley Gaines speaking out about her experience competing against transgender swimmer Lia Thomas.
Gaines responded to Thieme’s comments on Twitter Monday.
“You. Are. Deranged. And. Should. Be. In. Prison. I’d tag you, but, naturally, you made your account private. If you need a guest lecturer for you[r] course, let me know. In the meantime, someone should check her search history.”
Gaines competed against Thomas, a biological male, on the women’s team at University of Pennsylvania, tying for fifth place in the 200-yard freestyle. Thomas beat out his female competitors by 1.75 seconds during the NCAA championships in March 2022. Thomas was ranked #462 when he competed on the male team, and quickly ranked #1 in the women’s.
