President Donald Trump promised to live-tweet the first Democratic debate for the presidential 2020 nomination, but he offered a one-word summary of the competition between his detractors.
BORING!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 27, 2019
"BORING!" he tweeted in all-caps.
He also added a second tweet that criticized the networks for a technical problem with the microphones of the moderators.
"[NBC News] and [MSNBC] should be ashamed of themselves for having such a horrible technical breakdown in the middle of the debate," the president fumed.
.@NBCNews and @MSNBC should be ashamed of themselves for having such a horrible technical breakdown in the middle of the debate. Truly unprofessional and only worthy of a FAKE NEWS Organization, which they are!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) June 27, 2019
"Truly unprofessional and only worthy of a FAKE NEWS Organization, which they are!" he added.
There was a change in the moderators between the first and second halves of the debates, but when the second half began, audio from the first moderators could still be heard from backstage.
NBC's Chuck Todd attempted to ask a question to the candidates, but the microphone problem prevented them from hearing it.
He asked again, but other voices could be heard while the candidates looked around confusedly.
"What's happening?!" said MSNBC's Rachel Maddow.
Maddow and Todd appeared flustered about the mistake, and they instead went to a commercial in order to allow for the audio to be fixed.
Here's video of the confusing technical issue:
