Gregory Hodge served as an Emergency Medical Technician with the New York City Fire Department for 24 years.
He was part of the rescue and recovery effort at the devastating World Trade Centre attacks in 2001 and has been hailed by colleagues as 'a skilled first responder who provided outstanding emergency medical care to thousands of New Yorkers.'

At least four other members of the city's fire department have lost their lives to the virus with other public services - including the NYPD - also suffering.

Mr Hodge's latest assignment was as a watch commander, in charge of monitoring citywide radio frequencies and helping to manage the teams 24-hour operation, NBC New York reports.
FDNY Commissioner Daniel Nigro said: 'EMT Hodge was a skilled first responder who provided outstanding emergency medical care to thousands of New Yorkers throughout his long and distinguished career of service.

'This pandemic has impacted our Department at every level, especially our EMS members who are responding to more medical calls than ever before.
'Now, they will continue to bravely answer those calls with even heavier hearts, having lost one of their fellow EMTs to COVID-19.
'Our entire Department mourns his loss.'
