So we opened early again for senior citizens. Honestly, most days we have done this, they have been friendly and polite. Today,... whew... today was NOT that day.
As you can see here, we got in flushable wipes, disinfecting wipes (kirkland and clorox) and bleach. Great cleaning supplies.
What you don't see here... is paper products. First time in about 2 weeks we didnt get SOME paper product. But today we got zero paper towels, toilet paper, napkins. None. We got 2 pallets of kleenex a little bit after we opened.
I understand it's difficult to get toilet paper pretty much ANYWHERE right now. And overall, people have been understanding about it. But today was the day every angry old person came through and had something to say about it to me.
By 10 am, this is all that was left of those boards. Not pictured, the seniors who walked off after telling me I was doing seniors a disservice by opening early for them without paper products. Also not pictured, the old woman who, when asking when we were getting out next shipment in, after I said 3 words shoved her hand near my face to say "she didn't want to be lied to" and stormed off.
This pallet stack is all the boards of stuff I was able to pass along to people when we opened. Mentally, I'm exhausted today. I had to hold myself back from saying something rude several times.
How about some actual things angry people asked me today? Glad you asked.
This is a truck question. The line for anyone under 60 wasn't let into the building until after 9, while the line for seniors rarely had any stops, we let them just mosey on in. So when you come up to me at 745, when we have been open since 7 with no line for seniors, 100% seriously asking this, I have to just grind my teeth.
There is literally a sign that we write down what we are out of stock on. I'm sorry you didn't check it on the way in.
I understand sometimes can't hear well. Especially senior citizens. But "paper products" is a wide range of items. And when you ask for 2 seperate items, both with "paper" in the title, I dont know what to say. Also, I heard this question about 40 times in 2 hours.
I dont know how much more simple I could have made things for some people. I would politely say "no, the computer will block you, its 1 per membership per day". Then watch them try to sneak a 2nd one into their cart.
Again, we didn't even have any to start today. So you could get in line NOW for tomorrow and if we don't get any then, you won't get it tomorrow either.
Because I'm not a mind reader
This one was the worst. I'm an adult. I'm over 40. This "gentleman", who spent about 5 minutes deciding between the 2 types of wipes, made sure to directly insult me personally, my job, the fact I wasn't "doing real work" since i was standing by these items to help customers with them, etc. He would ask a question, i would try and answer, yet he would interrupt and give me what he thought was the "correct" answer. I don't know what made him so bitter, since he didn't even ask about toilet paper, but he made sure he let me know how he felt about me. I have no idea what his game was, but it was brutal how rude he was. 99% of time since the pandemic started, work has been hard, but pleasant. People have been understanding and encouraging during these difficult times. Today, while it may have only been the 1% of the time it wasn't rosey and happy, it felt like much, MUCH longer. Keep your chins up, my retail brothers and sisters.
