The Flash actor Hartley Sawyer has been fired from the show after his racist, misogynist and homophobic tweets recently resurfaced. 
The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the actor - who played Ralph Dibny on The CW series for the past three seasons - was let go after a string of his tweets with racist and misogynist references came to light last week. 
THR reports that Sawyer has now deleted his Twitter account, but screenshots of the offending tweets - said to contain racist and homophobic language - have been circulating online.

THR claims that the tweets included one from 2012 that said: 'The only thing keeping me from doing mildly racist tweets is the knowledge that Al Sharpton would never stop complaining about me.'
Another one from 2013 said: 'Super Bowl! America! 80% of the prison population is African-American!'
More tweets circulating included one that said 'Out at dinner and just exposed myself as a racist, AGAIN' and one saying: 'As a lad, one of my favorite activities was kidnapping homeless women and cutting off their breasts.'

Lengthy apology: The actor posted this message to his fans on his Instagram account on May 30 before it was revealed he had been fired from the show 
He tweeted in 2014: 'Enjoyed a secret boob viewing at an audition today.'  
Other tweets were said to make reference to assaulting women, with one saying: 'Date rape myself so I don't have to masturbate.'
He also made homophobic remarks, telling one Twitter user: 'just kidding I don't care and fags are fine but sports often make me snore.' 
Sawyer has apologized on Instagram his official Instagram saying: 'My words, irrelevant of being meant with an intent of humor, were hurtful, and unacceptable.'
'I am ashamed I was capable of these really horrible attempts to get attention at that time. I regret them deeply. This was not acceptable behavior. These were words I threw out at the time with no thought or recognition of the harm my words could do, and now have done today.'

Grant Gustin - who plays the main character Barry Allen / The Flash on the CW series - spoke about the incident on Monday. 
Grant shared a statement from showrunner Eric Wallace, and added his own thoughts saying: I don't have much to add because Eric’s thoughts are stated so eloquently and powerfully. I will say I was shocked, saddened and angry when I saw the tweets. Words matter.'
Meanwhile a statement from The CW, producers Warner Bros. TV and Berlanti Productions and executive producer Eric Wallace was sent out in regards to the matter.
'Hartley Sawyer will not be returning for season seven of The Flash. In regards to Mr. Sawyer's posts on social media, we do not tolerate derogatory remarks that target any race, ethnicity, national origin, gender, or sexual orientation,' the statement reads.
'Such remarks are antithetical to our values and polices, which strive and evolve to promote a safe, inclusive and productive environment for our workforce.'
