President-elect Joe Biden and wife Jill Biden attended an early morning church service Friday to mark the 48th anniversary of the president-elect's first wife and baby daughter's death.

On December 18, 1972, just weeks after Biden won election to the U.S. Senate at the age of 29, his wife Neilia was driving with the couple's three children - Beau, Hunter and baby daughter Naomi - when she was hit by a tractor-trailer truck and killed.

Naomi also perished in the accident, while Beau and Hunter were seriously injured.

The Bidens went to mass at the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church a little after 7 a.m. Friday and stayed a little over 30 minutes. They were accompanied by daughter Ashley and her husband Howard Krein.

Biden has been photographed going to mass there weekly and also attended on December 8 for for the feast day of the Immaculate Conception.

Jill Biden was wearing a pale pink coat as the soon-to-be first couple made their way through the snow.

After the church service, the transition called a 'lid,' meaning Biden wouldn't be leaving his Delaware home the rest of the day.

The church service ended a week when Biden saw his win cemented by Monday's Electoral College vote.

On Tuesday, Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell congratulated Biden on the Senate floor for his win.

Soon afterward, Biden called McConnell to thank him for his words.

Biden also traveled to Atlanta, Georgia Tuesday to stump for Democratic Senate hopefuls Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.

He introduced his pick for Transportation Secretary, former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg on Wednesday.

Biden pleased tribal leaders and progressive activists Thursday when the news broke that he had selected Rep. Deb Haaland, one of two Native American women serving in Congress, to lead the Interior Department.

Next week, Biden is set to receive the coronavirus vaccine - and said he would get the injection in front of cameras.

This comes after the news that incoming senior White House adviser Cedric Richmond, a U.S. congressman from Louisiana, tested positive for COVID-19.

Richmond was in Atlanta Tuesday with Biden, but wore a mask and traveled separately. A journalist on that trip, who also traveled on a separate plane, also tested positive for the virus.
