A developmentally disabled man has been brutally murdered in a New York City apartment building.
The body of Eric McBride, 30, was discovered Saturday afternoon in the stairwell of a building at the Lincoln Houses complex in Harlem.
McBride was stabbed 19 times and his throat was slashed, according to The New York Daily News.
The grisly murder has stunned McBride's family, who say he may have been targeted because of his trusting nature.
McBride, who lived with his mother in a different building of the Lincoln Houses, a city-owned public housing project, is being remembered as a Good Samaritan who 'ran errands for people in the neighborhood'.
He often received cash tips from those people, who became close to him.
It's shocking that someone did this to someone who was so trusting,' his aunt, Valerie McBride, told The Daily News.

'He mattered. He was somebody. It's important that people know that. He never saw wrong in anyone. He was full of life. He loved his music and dancing'.
McBride had been visiting with friends in the Lincoln Houses building before his body was found in the stairwell.

Police have not yet revealed whether they have any persons of interest in the case.
'We don't know what happened. They're not telling us anything. He was a wonderful man. He'd take the shirt off his back for you. There's nothing he wouldn't do,' his uncle, Aaron McBride, told The Daily News.
McBride's heartbroken sister, Janay Valid, took to Facebook, sharing several happy snaps of her brother.
'Lord please take the wheel and please hear our cries and prayers and find the person or persons that murdered my brother Eric,' she wrote.
'Oh Lord I’m so broken once again.'
New York is continuing to be plagued by violent crime.
Statistics released by the NYPD revealed that shootings in the month of January were up 16 percent when compared to the same month last year.
Meanwhile, there were 25 murders in January, a slight decrease from the 27 recorded in January 2020.
Statistics for the month of February have not yet been released by the police department.
Last month it was revealed that murders in New York City soared 47 per cent from 2019 to 2020 and a shocking 70 per cent of shootings went unsolved.
'Crime in New York City is a major problem,' New York Gov Andrew Cuomo stated at a press conference last week.
