Police said a homeless man sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman in broad daylight on a New York City street over the weekend — but the woman refused to be a victim and fought him off.

Now the suspect is in custody.

What are the details?

The woman was walking near the corner of 27th Street and 30th Avenue in Astoria, Queens, around 2 p.m. Saturday, police told the New York Post. Police said the suspect approached the woman, put his hand up her shorts, and touched her private area. Cops added to the Post that he also pushed the woman against a fence.

But the woman fought him off, and the man fled south on 27th Street, police told the Post, adding that the victim wasn't hurt during the attack.

Police told the Post the suspect stands about 5-feet, 10-inches tall and weighs about 165 pounds. Police also tweeted a short surveillance video of the suspect, who was seen wearing a gray hoodie, black baseball hat, gray shorts, black sneakers, and a red backpack.

Suspect arrested

The New York Daily News reported that 28-year-old Kevin Campos was taken into custody a few hours after police released surveillance footage of the suspect fleeing the scene of the attack.

The Daily News added that residents called 911 after spotting Campos near Astoria Park on Sunday.

Police arrested Campos without incident and charged him with sex abuse, forcible touching, and assault, the Daily News said.

Campos' arraignment in Queens Criminal Court was pending Monday, the Daily News added.
