A North Carolina woman says she arrived at her northwest Charlotte home Tuesday morning to find a female stranger inside — and then shot the alleged intruder dead.

What are the details?

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police responded to a home on Porter Street just before 5:30 a.m. after the homeowner called 911 and said she shot a stranger inside her house, WCNC-TV reported

Police said the caller stayed on the phone with a 911 dispatcher and then interviewed with detectives after officers arrived at the scene, the station said.

The individual who was shot died at the scene, WCNC said, citing emergency medical services.

Police haven't identified the person who was shot or the woman who fired the shots, the station said.

An officer at the scene said on camera that the "resident had arrived home, found ... another female inside the residence, and a shot was fired. There is a homicide investigation on scene right now. Currently one person of interest and one witness are being interviewed downtown."

WCNC added that there is no threat to the public, and police aren't looking for any suspects in this case.

Any charges in the case will be determined by the Mecklenburg County District Attorney's Office, the station said.

WCNC also added, "The investigation into this case is active and ongoing. As additional information develops, it will be released by the CMPD’s Public Affairs Office. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit detective. Detective Moore is the lead detective assigned to this case. The public can also leave information anonymously by contacting Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600 or http://charlottecrimestoppers.com."
