A man in Utah is dead after an FBI raid on the man's home.
At around 6:15 a.m. on Wednesday morning, FBI agents arrived at Craig Robertson's home in Provo, Utah. The FBI had a warrant to search Robertson's home and to arrest him under suspicion of making interstate threats; threats against the president; and influencing, impeding, and retaliating against federal law enforcement officers by threat.
Robertson was described in court documents as a white male "approximately 70-75 years old" who had been observed "wearing a dark suit (later observed as having an AR-15 style rifle lapel pin attached), a white shirt, a red tie, and a multi-colored (possibly camouflage) hat bearing the word 'TRUMP' on the front."
During the raid, tensions reportedly escalated, and at least one FBI agent fired a weapon at the suspect. Robertson was later pronounced deceased, though whether he was ever taken to a hospital is unclear. It is also unclear whether Robertson had been armed at the time. No agents were harmed in the incident, the FBI confirmed.
"The FBI takes all shooting incidents involving our agents or task force members seriously," the FBI said in a statement. "In accordance with FBI policy, the shooting incident is under review by the FBI's Inspection Division. As this is an ongoing matter, we have no further details to provide."
A federal investigation into Robertson began earlier this year after he allegedly posted several social media messages that made "credible" threats to "inflict bodily harm" on President Joe Biden and other Democrats, court documents claim.
"I hear Biden is coming to Utah. Digging out my hold Ghille suit and cleaning the dust off the M24 sniper rifle," Robertson allegedly posted sometime around August 7. Biden is scheduled to visit Utah on Wednesday, the same day Robertson's home was raided.
Though some reports indicate that the FBI began keeping an eye on Robertson in April, other reports indicate that at least one agent approached Robertson about his social media posts the month before. "I said it was a dream!" the suspect allegedly explained to a special agent conducting surveillance on his home on March 19. He then told agents to come back with a warrant. The FBI reportedly alerted the U.S. Secret Service about Robertson in June.
Reports also indicate that Robertson made similar social media threats against Vice President Kamala Harris and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who has indicted former President Donald Trump. "I’ll be waiting in the courthouse parking garage with my suppressed Smith &
Wesson M&P 9mm to smoke a radical fool prosecutor that should never have been elected," Robertson allegedly posted in April after Trump was first indicted, KMGH-TV reported. "BYE, BYE, TO ANOTHER CORRUPT B______!!!"
The U.S. Secret Service confirmed that it had received reports "involving an individual in Utah who has exhibited threats towards a Secret Service protected." The agency then directed all other questions regarding the case to the FBI.
Reports indicate that Biden was also briefed on the fatal shooting while he was traveling to New Mexico. No statements from the White House have yet been reported.
