Alec Baldwin’s legal team has requested a quick trial following his indictment on charges of involuntary manslaughter earlier this month.
The 65-year-old actor was involved in a 2021 shooting incident that left “Rust” cinematographer Halyna Hutchins dead and the movie’s director, Joel Souza, injured.
Baldwin has adamantly insisted that he never pulled the gun’s trigger. The actor was previously charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter on January 31, 2023, but the charges were later dropped in April 2023.
New charges were filed in January 2024.
“Mr. Baldwin is entitled to a fair and speedy disposition of the charges to minimize public vilification and suspicion and to avoid the hazards of proving his innocence that often arise after lengthy delays in a prosecution,” documents obtained by Fox News Digital said.
The actor’s attorneys also want to “preserve all evidence” that is pertinent to the case and want a written list of all “witnesses which the prosecutor intends to call at the trial,” the outlet noted.
Baldwin’s defense team asks for “results or reports of physical or mental examinations, and of scientific tests or experiments, including all polygraph examinations of witnesses, made in connection with this particular case, or copies thereof, within the possession, custody, or control of the state, the existence of which is known, or by the exercise of due diligence may become known to the prosecutor” in addition to “any material evidence favorable to the defendant which the state is required to produce under the due process clause of the United States Constitution.”
Additionally, Baldwin must enter a plea by February 1 or he will have a warrant issued for his arrest.
Though the “30 Rock” actor still says he never pulled the gun’s trigger, special prosecutors Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis presented a report that found the shooting occurred by a “pull or rearward depression of the trigger.”
“This fatal incident was the consequence of the hammer being manually retracted to its fully rearward and cocked position followed, at some point, by the pull or rearward depression of the trigger,” the report they presented to the grand jury said, as The Daily Wire previously reported.
“Although Alec Baldwin repeatedly denies pulling the trigger, given the tests, findings and observations reported here, the trigger had to be pulled or depressed sufficiently to release the fully cocked or retracted hammer of the evidence revolver.”
If convicted, Baldwin could spend up to 18 months in prison.
