Florida Governor Ron DeSantis backed Texas Governor Greg Abbott this week as he fights against the Biden administration to secure Texas’ border with Mexico to stop millions of illegal aliens from flooding into his state.
DeSantis’ statement comes after the U.S. Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration this week, ruling that it could cut through or remove sections of razor wire that the Texas National Guard has placed along the border to stop illegal immigration.
“If the Constitution really made states powerless to defend themselves against an invasion, it wouldn’t have been ratified in the first place and Texas would have never joined the union when it did,” DeSantis wrote on X. “TX is upholding the law while Biden is flouting it. FL will keep assisting Texas with personnel and assets.”
Abbott said on Wednesday that Biden’s failures to secure the border “imposed by Article IV, § 4 has triggered Article I, § 10, Clause 3, which reserves to this State the right of self-defense.”
“For these reasons, I have already declared an invasion under Article I, § 10, Clause 3 to invoke Texas’s constitutional authority to defend and protect itself,” he concluded. “That authority is the supreme law of the land and supersedes any federal statutes to the contrary. The Texas National Guard, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and other Texas personnel are acting on that authority, as well as state law, to secure the Texas border.”
DeSantis weighed in earlier in the week after the Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration by allowing the government to take down the razor wire.
“Texas is trying to enforce our laws and uphold our sovereignty while the federal government is disregarding the law and ignoring its responsibility to protect our borders,” he said. “What an upside down world.”
