During her 2020 presidential campaign, Vice President Kamala Harris pledged that she would work to keep transgender criminals out of jail, archived campaign materials reviewed by The Daily Wire reveal.
Harris’ now-inactive campaign website claims that “the LGBTQ+ community is exposed to higher rates of violence and assault in prison, and it is even more so with transgender individuals.” Harris, it says, would work as president to “reduce incarceration of LGBTQ+ individuals.”
“Kamala understands the best way to address the issue is to seek alternatives to incarceration to prevent trans individuals from being incarcerated in the first place,” the site reads. “Kamala would also push to significantly reform our sentencing laws to further reduce sentences.”
Now the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Harris has come under fire for walking back several extreme positions she took in 2020. Her campaign now claims that she would not ban fracking, even though such a ban was a centerpiece of her 2020 campaign. Harris and her allies have also erroneously asserted that she was never the Biden administration’s “border czar,” a claim echoed by several media outlets.
Former President Donald Trump’s running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH), blasted Harris over her pledge to keep transgender people out of prison.
“I find it pretty weird that Kamala Harris was so fixated on the issue of ‘transgender incarceration’ that she said we should seek alternatives to jail time for criminals who violate the law,” Vance told The Daily Wire. “I don’t care what gender you think you are: if you break the law you should go to jail. It’s as simple as that.”
The Harris campaign did not respond to a request for comment.
Harris’ campaign website also notes the candidate’s plan to “build a new generation of transgender leaders” and “work with transgender leaders and advocates to implement a comprehensive agenda to not just address the epidemic of violence trans persons face, but to create opportunity and build a more inclusive America.”
The Biden-Harris administration has routinely pushed far-left gender ideology and celebrated transgenderism. The administration has encouraged sex-change attempts among federal bureaucrats, with executive agencies creating gender transition support plans and barring government employees from referring to those who identified as transgender with biologically accurate pronouns.
The administration has also pushed radical gender theory in the military. A Daily Wire investigation revealed that a diversity, equity, and inclusion newsletter from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence celebrated one employee who said that crossdressing made him a better intelligence agent.
Curiously, the transgender section of Harris’ campaign website wades into what would become the defining issue of Harris’ vice presidency.
“Trump’s inhumane immigration policies have put these communities, especially transgender women, in dangerous conditions and have even resulted in death,” the site reads. “Kamala will immediately take executive action to address these issues while pursuing broader reform in Congress. She will: Increase the number of refugees admitted to the United States from a record low under the Trump Administration and provide appropriate services to refugees including legal counsel.”
“It doesn’t shock me that someone like Border Czar Kamala Harris can’t wrap her head around the basic principles of law and order,” Vance said, noting that Harris “has allowed over ten million illegal immigrants across our border—some of the violent murders and drug traffickers.”
