CNN Republican commentator Scott Jennings ripped into President Joe Biden during a Monday appearance, calling it “pathetic” that he would demand everyone else “lower the temperature” while continuing to cast former President Donald Trump as a villain who would destroy America.
Jennings made the comments during a panel discussion alongside Van Jones, former Biden Communications Director Kate Bedingfield, and host Anderson Cooper — and he argued that Biden should be willing to take the first step if he truly believed it was time to tone down the rhetoric in American politics.

Jennings was responding to Biden’s most recent interview with NBC anchor Lester Holt — the latest in a series of attempts to resurrect his image after a disastrous first debate against former President Trump — and he slammed Biden for reacting to the attempted assassination of his political opponent by trying “to do some wordplay with the ‘crosshairs’ ‘bullseye’ thing.”
Cooper played a clip of Biden’s interview and immediately noticed a visible reaction from the Republican: “Scott Jennings, you’re shaking your head.”
“I, uh … this man’s opponent just got his ear shot off, okay?” Jennings began. “And his instinct was to try to do some wordplay with the ‘crosshairs’ ‘bullseye’ thing, and then turned right around and uttered the lie about the ‘dictator,’ which is a complete and total lie — and the lie about the ‘bloodbath,’ which is a complete and total lie.”
“I find this to be pathetic, small, and partisan,” he continued. “I need the president to have an ounce of humility and introspection here, he is our leader. He’s our leader, and he needs to simply say, ‘I want to lower the temperature, I’ll take responsibility for my part, we should all do that together.’ And he cannot do it. He can’t do it.”
