Chloe Cole, a detransitioner who is outspoken about the harms of child transgender medical interventions, reacted Monday to Elon Musk saying he “lost” his son to gender ideology.
The Tesla founder said he was “tricked” into putting his son on puberty blockers, and the “woke mind virus” figuratively killed his child in an interview with Dr. Jordan Peterson on DailyWire+ which premiered live Monday afternoon.
Cole said Musk’s experience reminded her of her family’s experience with the psychologists and physicians they were seeing at the time.
“They really drilled this idea hard into my mom and dad that if I were denied this, if I weren’t allowed to medically transition at the young age that I was — I was 13 when I started the medical process — that I would commit suicide, that I would be gone,” Cole said in a video posted to X, formerly Twitter, which Musk bought in 2022.
“It was basically the premise of having a dead daughter versus a living, happy, thriving transgender son,” Cole said. “And of course, they did not fully disclose the actual extent of how these treatments could and would affect me in my development, in my physical and psychological health.”
Cole began identifying as male when she was just 12. She was put on puberty blockers and testosterone and received a double mastectomy before age 17, when she began identifying as female again and detransitioned.
“My mom and dad and I had no idea what we were really in for. And I went through this as the child, as the patient, but I can’t fathom the pain of being a parent and watching this happen to your own child,” Cole continued.
Cole offered words of encouragement to Musk, the same ones she said she has offered her dad.
“I’m sorry that this happened to you and your son, Elon. But I’ll tell you what I say to my own dad,” Cole said, her voice breaking. “And that is that you might feel a lot of guilt for signing off on this, but it was at a time where you weren’t given any other option, and you were just doing the best with what you were given, and that wasn’t very much.”
“What these doctors are doing to children and their families is evil,” she said. “It’s unconscionable. And I’m so grateful that, in spite of that pain that you’re going through, you still have chosen to speak up, and I’m so incredibly grateful for your conviction in fighting against this movement that is tearing up families like ours. Thank you, Elon.”
During Peterson’s interview, Peterson asked Musk why he was willing to make child medical transgender interventions an issue.
“Well, it happened to one of my older boys,” Musk said. “I was told oh, Xavier might commit suicide … It’s incredibly evil, and I agree with you that the people who are promoting this should go to prison.”
“So I was tricked into doing this. It wasn’t explained to me that puberty blockers are actually just sterilization drugs,” Musk said. “I lost my son, essentially. They call it ‘deadnaming’ for a reason. The reason it’s called ‘deadnaming’ is because your son is dead. So my son Xavier is dead, killed by the woke mind virus. So I vowed to destroy the woke mind virus after that.”
