Harris Accidentally Refers To Herself As President During Eulogy For Late Congresswoman, Crowd Erupts Into Cheers

Vice President Kamala Harris referred to herself as the president before catching her mistake, but not before the crowd erupted in cheers during the eulogy for the late Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee (D-TX) on Thursday.

Harris delivered the eulogy for Lee at a Houston-area church and made the blunder while discussing some of the issues Lee championed as a congresswoman.

“[A]s a leader who believed deeply that America’s true and full history must be acknowledged and honored, it was Sheila Jackson Lee whose bill made Juneteenth a federal holiday. Which, as a United States senator, I was proud to co-sponsor,” Harris said. “And then as president, as vice president, it was my honor with the president…”

Harris paused as those in attendance erupted in cheers and applause.

Harris took over as the presumptive Democratic nominee last month after President Biden announced he would not be seeking re-election but would finish out his first term in office. Numerous Republicans called on Biden to resign after he ended his campaign, with House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) arguing, “If Joe Biden is not fit to run for President, he is not fit to serve as President.”

The vice president has held multiple campaign rallies after getting the backing of much of the Democratic Party elite, but she has been criticizedfor not taking any questions from the media or holding a press conference. Harris was also blasted earlier this week for seemingly changing her voice and adopting a Southern drawl while speaking to a large crowd of supporters in Atlanta.

After taking the mantle as the presumed Democratic nominee, Harris has pushed her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, to agree to debate her on September 10 after Trump had agreed to a debate with Biden on the same date.

“He won’t debate, but he and his running mate sure seem to have a lot to say about me,” Harris said at her Atlanta rally. “Well, Donald, I do hope you’ll reconsider to meet me on the debate stage because, as the saying goes, if you got something to say, say it to my face.”

Trump told Fox News host Laura Ingraham earlier this week that he will “probably” debate Harris, but added, “I can also make a case for not doing it.”
